  6. DOS-PROMPT> VIEW
  7. _________________________________________________________________
  8. Clockwork VIEW is a memory-resident file-viewer, for viewing all
  9. kinds of ASCII and binary files.
  10.  
  11. This version of VIEW has been placed in the Public Domain by
  12. Clockwork Software.  That means that you are welcome to use it
  13. yourself and to pass it on to friends for their use, but you must
  14. not sell it.

  18. Installing VIEW
  19. ---------------
  20. Type "VIEW" at the DOS prompt (or include "VIEW" in AUTOEXEC.BAT)
  21. to install the program in memory.  VIEW occupies only about 13.5k
  22. of RAM.

  26. Removing VIEW
  27. -------------
  28. Type "VIEW REMOVE" at the DOS prompt to remove VIEW and release
  29. the memory.  Note that other resident programs (TSRs) installed
  30. above VIEW may lock it into place, so you might have to remove
  31. them first.

  35. Action Keys
  36. -----------
  37. VIEW is supplied with "RightShift + Spacebar" action keys.  Press
  38. both keys together to call and to dismiss the program.
  39.  
  40. The action keys can be changed by pressing "A" for Action, and
  41. saved as defaults for future occasions provided VIEW.COM is in
  42. the current directory.

  44. If you forget what the action keys are, attempting to re-install
  45. the program will display your current settings.

  49. File Viewing
  50. ------------
  51. Load a file for viewing by pressing F3.  You may select an
  52. ambiguous file specification (using ???s and *s) and select any
  53. drive or path.

  55. You can drive around your file using a combination of:
  56.      DownArrow, UpArrow, PgUp, PgDn, Home and End.
  57.  
  58. Press F1 or ? to see the help file.  It replaces any other file
  59. you may have been viewing at the time.

  63. Toggle Switches
  64. ---------------
  65. There are three switches which control the way the file is
  66. displayed:-

  68. HEX-MODE:
  69. File data can be viewed in ASCII or hexadecimal mode to choice.
  70. The "H" key toggles between modes while maintaining roughly the
  71. same position in the file.

  73. WRAP:
  74. In ASCII display mode you may select whether lines longer than 80
  75. characters are displayed on one line (with right-end lost), or
  76. wrapped onto subsequent lines.  This option is toggled with the
  77. "W" key.

  79. GRAPHICS:
  80. You may select whether characters above ASCII(128) are folded or
  81. shown as IBM graphics.  CRLFs are also displayed, and TAB
  82. characters expanded or not according to the Graphics mode.  This
  83. option is toggled with the "G" key.

  87. Colours

  89. There is a choice of 4 colour schemes, Mono, 1, 2 and 3.  To call
  90. the colors menu, press the "C" key.  Your chosen colours are also
  91. saved when you save the action keys to VIEW.COM.
